Start Your Day With Checking In

Writing is a powerful channel to express yourself. This is an exercise created by Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way and is called Morning Pages.

Keep a journal and a pen next to your bed. The moment you wake up and your mind is still half asleep start writing in your journal. It should be a subconscious stream of thoughts. Whatever pops into your mind, write it down. Nobody is going to read what you wrote, not even you. It is just an exercise for clearing your mind, like a morning meditation.

It is like checking in with yourself. Checking on what is buried deep in your mind. It might be a person who is really annoying at work, a difficult project you are working on, your recent fight with your spouse. As you see the thoughts might be really random. You are just dumping all your negativity on this piece of paper in order to start your day with the fresh and clear mind.

Watch your breath and watch your mind. Be still and let all the thoughts pass from your mind onto the paper.
